Aquatic Laboratory

UNDERC has a lakeside Aquatic Laboratory

For nearly 30 years, the 2,200 sq. ft. upper floor of this structure provided the only research laboratory facilities at UNDERC. This building, located immediately adjacent to Tenderfoot Lake, has been enlarged to 5,000 sq. ft. and was completely renovated in 2012. The second floor houses offices and laboratories for the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). 

  • 1,500 sq. ft. wet laboratory with trench floor drains and overhead services (air, lake and well water)
  • 250 sq. ft. room for aquaria and individual (1L) housing of aquatic animals (with air)
  • laboratory for housing terrestrial vertebrates outfitted with a fume hood
  • vented storage area for the storage of sampling and scuba gear
  • fenced area adjacent to the building for outside tanks and aquaria

    • cattle tanks of two different sizes treated for aquatic organisms
