Research Opportunities

Students at UNDERC-West stay on a working cattle ranch

UNDERC-West promotes environmental research in montane forest, Palouse prairie, and aquatic systems.  Researchers are responsible for getting their own permits through the appropriate federal, state, and/or tribal agencies.  There is no application form required for research at UNDERC-West, however we ask that you please contact the UNDERC Director to help guide you in presenting research proposals to the appropriate agencies.  Researchers are also responsible for attaining Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee protocols if working with vertebrates.  Researchers are expected to provide their own equipment and supplies, and to remove these at the end of the field season.  All research must conform to the UNDERC Laboratory Integrated Safety Plan.  Research and mentoring fellowships are available for University of Notre Dame graduate students.
